HOUSE & GARDENS
Built by the current owners in 2009, Gallery House is a modernist masterpiece, designed by the renowned Andrew Herring. Tucked away in a private position within this highly sought after South Oxfordshire village, Gallery House really is an oasis of calm and tranquillity – a peaceful escape from the outside world. A labour of love, the end result is hugely gratifying and indulgent in the best possible way. With influences taken from California and the far East, there is a stunning flow between open spaces and an abundance of light, with large areas of glazing and double height ceilings. The polished concrete flooring ties the different areas together seamlessly and the use of water, both inside and out make this truly special house a peaceful and Zen-like retreat.
HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE
A magnificent sense of open space and light, with several different views to the outside from almost all parts of this cleverly designed house, the owners were keen to create a space that not only flows seamlessly, but one where they would use all of the rooms within. The indoor swimming pool is a significant feature of the house and the first thing you see behind a large glazed wall on entry through the front door. Stylishly set in black tiles, and surrounded by York stone, this internal body of water metaphorically links the internal spaces to the outside ponds. The seamless flow between the inside and outside spaces is a real feature of this incredible house. The gardens have been designed around the concept of wild and the end result is a private and peaceful oasis – a glorious disconnect to the outside world. As with houses that have been built by the occupants for themselves, the quality of finish and specification is very high. This includes a beautiful Bulthaup kitchen with Gaggenau ovens, as well as high end and beautiful bathroom suites. There are three bedroom suites, however, the gym and connecting bathroom could also be used as a fourth bedroom. Built with high levels of insulation, with underfloor heating on the ground floor, this is an efficient house to run. There are three gas fires, which add further to the aesthetics of this remarkable house, but are certainly not required from a heating perspective. Eco credentials are further enhanced with the three sloping green ‘living’ roofs, which take little maintenance, and again tie the house into the garden and the surrounding area. There is plenty of storage space which has been cleverly built into the design of the house.
