The AreaBrightwalthon

Brightwalton is a very popular village in a Conservation Area and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Berkshire Downs. There is a good network of footpaths and bridleways on the chalk Downs including the famous Ridgeway close by. There is an active local community, and in the village itself there is a primary school and pre-school, a church and a recreation ground.

Saddleback Farm Shop and café is situated just on the edge of the village, and there are pubs in nearby Chaddleworth and Peasemore. Communications in the area are excellent both by road and rail.

Wantage is an attractive market town with a good selection of shops, best known as the birthplace of Alfred the Great, with his statue standing in the busy market place.

Newbury is a larger market town on the Kennet and Avon canal and has a large selection of shops with a vibrant café and restaurant culture. Although it is best known for its Racecourse, Donnington Castle, The Watermill Theatre and the Corn Exchange are also popular attractions.

Hope Cottage, BrightwaltonAbout this home

Hope Cottage is located on the edge of the thriving and very popular Downland village of Brightwalton, surrounded by fabulous rolling countryside with wonderful views. The property was originally a farm worker cottage believed to date from the 16th century, which at a later date incorporated the storage barn to create the wonderful kitchen/breakfast/family room. As you would expect in a cottage of this period, there are many original features including attractive fireplaces and exposed beams. There is a recently built timber garage with an annexe above, in front of which is a charming kitchen garden with raised beds. A wide terrace runs along the rear of the cottage which is ideal for entertaining and looks out over the garden, laid mainly to lawn and surrounded by mature hedges, shrubs, trees and mixed flower borders.
